Kupari is a five-part work for saxophone, ceramic instruments, and electronics, composed and performed by Anna-Sofia Anttonen and Tuukka Tervo. This experimental, time-spanning work incorporates field recordings, algorithmic processes and improvisation. It was inspired by the former mining area of Outokumpu in North Karelia, and particularly by the acoustics of Kiisuhalli, a vast hall originally built for storing copper ore. The piece was composed in spring 2024 during a working period at the Old Mine Residency, and was performed in Kiisuhalli as part of the stay.
